Supadance was founded over 50 years ago. The founder was a man named Michael Henry "Mick" Free who lived next door to dance teachers. They informed him there were no specific shoes for ballroom dancing at the time, so Mr Free took it upon himself to create the first dance shoes specifically for Ballroom and Latin dance styles by manufacturing the classic men's shoes, and women's satin shoes, with a suede sole. Mr Free was an entrepreneur who had previously owned a shoe repair shop. He was a renowned perfectionist who was obsessed with quality and the finer detail and so word about the brand quickly spread amongst the dance community and it has been regarded as the industry's best, and most recognisable brand ever since. Mr Free's son, David Barry Free, worked closely with him in the family business, and eventually took over after his death. Barry also studied in the prestigious London College of Fashion, and now Barry and his wife Mariola Free are the owners and managers of this family business. The shoes are still to this day made in England - the factory is located in greater London.
